.::So I noticed that many people do this, and its' rather sickening. Either they disregard the proper course of historical events, immensely misinterpret it, or 'alter it' to fit their ships. Three main 'ships' that this occurs with are ones I happen to dislike with gusto.
For me, I majorly dislike JapanxPhilippines, JapanxCambodia, and FrancexCambodia.
Lets' get started on why, shall we?
Japanese Imperialism in the Philippines and Cambodia was nothing short of horrific. The Japanese killed enormous amounts, burned villages, raped women, the whole nine yards. Though this was primarily occuring in the Philippines and they are in reasonable terms current day, it doesn't change the fact that this pairing could be considered remotely offensive. As for French colonization in Cambodia, many Khmer ways were oppressed and almost stamped out.

However, this does not go to say that Imperialism, Colonization, and 'Invasion' are synonymous with rape.
Rape is not trendy. RAPE. IS. NOT. FUNNY.

Its' really disrespectful to rape victims to make your OC be majorly raped and yet still being passionately in love with their rapist.
I'm really glad that most Alaska's don't do what is frequently done on Tumblr. Yes, people seriously make a huge tangent about how horribly abused and how raped their Alas-OC's are by Russia and yet how they have a beyond the boundries passionate romance.
Yes, Alaska was dealt horrible atrocities such as the massacres of their people and animals by the Russians. However, isn't it rather insensitive to portray the State in such a way?

Lastly, I see a huge drama/harassment issue going down about 'white washing', and it is sadly very frequent.

First: If you see a 'white-washed' OC, don't go screeching and throwing the "OMG RACIST SUUUUEEE!!111!"  Just say or hint along the lines of "Oh, perhaps it'd be best to make your OC a tad darker skinned" and link them to pictures/references of people from that country.
Second: Typically this seen with South African countries, and I get that the Dutch [and other caucasian ethnics] make up a large quanity of the population, but South African countries are still African. At the very last make their skin a dark tan pigment.
