Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, Laos, and Cambodia can be dubbed the 'rice paddy gang' (/ drew something of it). But then again rice is a staple food in most oriental countries.
In any case, (though I'm not sure if it goes for the other countries) Khmer people sometimes keep fish as well in their rice paddies. There are also a lot of snakes. I've seen a Banded Krait and an Indochinese Spitting Cobra (that was a terrifying one, it took a while to get rid of it) in my uncles fields before, so if you happen to ever go to Cambodia and go to the rice fields, watch your step. There was one a pit viper on my grandmother's door-step as well...
